We do so by offering a seamless combined legal and psychological approach, whether our clients’ aim is to reach agreement with their former spouse or partner, mediate or litigate in the courts. This joint approach recognises the fact that in family court litigation or mediation, the uniqueness of our client’s case centres around the differing psychologies of the individuals and families involved – not merely the differing facts.

By adopting this joint approach, we also avoid those consequences of a purely legally based service which frequently lead to clients’ criticising their own family solicitors for drawing matters out, creating unwanted hostility, and failing to understand and present the uniqueness of their case. Too often, family lawyers fail to understand their client's case, concentrating instead on how their case compares to legal precedent (what the court thought was an appropriate resolution for an entirely different family, with different circumstances, perhaps many years ago). In addition to benefitting from this strategic advantage, our psychological approach also recognises the need for clients to be supported emotionally and psychologically in order that they can act as the best advocate for their family. By agreeing with the client how our joint approach should be implemented at every stage of our advice and representation, anxiety and feelings of helplessness are reduced. This therapeutic aspect of our service also leads to our clients achieving an understanding and emotional closure of the reasons for the family breakdown, thereby enabling them to articulate their case more objectively and constructively than otherwise would be the case.

Due to our combined skill set, we are also able to understand any specific psychiatric or psychological issues relating to the adults or children involved which may affect the outcome of the case or indeed financial structures that would be beyond the understanding of other family law solicitors.
